Pritzker Appoints Members to Broadband Advisory Council

Governor JB Pritzker introduced members of the Broadband Advisory Council at a press conference in Springfield Thursday, August 15. Appointing members to the council is the first step in launching Pritzker's $420 million Connect Illinois program to improve broadband access throughout the state. The 25 member council includes seven leaders with deep knowledge of the telecommunications industry, particularly in serving rural and urban areas throughout the state. Five of the seven industry appointments represent ITA member companies:

  • Deno Perdiou - Director of Government & Regulatory Affairs, AT&T
  • Karen Boswell - Director of Government & Regulatory Affairs, Frontier Communications
  • Rick Holzmacher - Director of Government Affairs, Illinois Rural Broadband Association
  • Melia Carter, Director of Government Affairs, Verizon
  • Zak Horn - President, Metro Communications

According to the press release, Connect Illinois will centralize state agency resources, collaborate with private-sector experts and bipartisan legislators from around Illinois and break down government silos to expand broadband access across the entire state. Their work will be centered around three main outcomes: telehealth, education and economic development.

"Rebuild Illinois will improve our infrastructure at a historic scale, and it lays the foundation for economic progress and educational success for the decades to come," said Governor JB Pritzker. "High-speed broadband internet is an absolute necessity for economic progress and educational attainment, but too many of our towns and counties and communities have been left out of the digital revolution, especially downstate. Our Broadband Advisory Council will be guided by three areas of focus for Illinois' success in the 21st century: education, telehealth and economic development. By working together, we're going to Connect Illinois."

The Broadband Advisory Council will hold its first meeting Monday, August 19.

Room Block Deadline for the Vendor Showcase is next Friday, Aug. 23!

We have put together an outstanding agenda for the fall ITA Vendor Showcase. We have expanded the agenda this year to provide more presentations from industry leaders. The presentations will provide important information pertinent to your entire organization from executives to general managers, engineers, technicians and every employee working to provide the services your customers demand!

In addition to our breakout sessions, ITA President, Randy Nehrt, will provide an update on legislative and regulatory issues, including Governor JB Pritzker’s $400 million program to improve broadband access throughout the state.

You won’t want to miss the popular open forum session that provides an outstanding atmosphere to discuss current issues with your peers. Whether it’s content delivering networks and peering exchanges, OTT video options, the status of 5G and its impact on the industry, managed WiFi, opportunities to grow your ARPU or any other issue your company is considering, the open forum session is a great opportunity to learn how your colleagues are addressing the same issues.

The Vendor Exhibition always provides a great opportunity to discuss issues with our associate members providing the best products and services to the telecom and broadband industry, and we have expanded networking events this year as well.
